It is expected the three-day event in October will attract over 1,000 visitors to Gilgandra.
There will be school and family reunions, markets, a street parade, live music, entertainment, a sports auction and an outdoor screened viewing of the NRL Grand Final on Sunday evening at our local McGrane Football Oval.
John Farragher and John Hickmott encouraged Wendy Tomkins to send a letter to the Gilgandra Shire per Kathryn Larkin in May 2021 seeking support for a ‘Come Home to Gilgandra Festival’ on the long Weekend in October.
Wendy said “I knew it was going to take a Community to bring the “Come Home to Gilgandra Festival” to fruition. A Steering Committee was formed and together as a Team we have been surging forward with our amazing plans to once again bring Gilgandra back to life after years of droughts, bushfires, the mice plague and Covid restricting tourism. ‘The response has been amazing and so much positivity gathering to make this a memorable event. “Take Me Home Country Road To The Place I Call Home”
The weekend will be a great opportunity for residents, former residents and non-residents to experience the warmth and hospitality of our town and district.
The clubs, pubs, groups and individuals can participate in some way. The more community participation we have, the more the weekend will succeed, the Gilgandra Festival Committee is responsible for the overall weekend and available for help and support and each participant can organise their own event.
